Fundraising Campaign Description

End Date: Nov 12, 2012 12:00 AM

Dear Friends and Family,

Every year, the Volunteer Service Corps at Wake Forest University organizes international trips in hopes of making a difference abroad in an underserved population area. Recently, I received news of my acceptance to go on their Vietnam trip and could not be more thrilled about this life-changing opportunity! With your assistance, a small village outside of Rach Gia, Vietnam will benefit from service provided by Wake students and our relationship with the Peacework Ambassadors Program. We will help build a school and work primarily on minor construction projects such as painting, spackling, sanding, etc. Other tasks include teaching English to the local Vietnamese children and creating a cleaner environment.

The lasting impact of my efforts in Vietnam will extend far past a new school or place of worship built in a small village. As an American, I consider international service in a country like Vietnam to be a form of radical peacemaking. I may be the first U.S. citizen that many of these villagers have ever come in contact with, and therefore can act as a type of ambassador. By rejecting the mentality that my group is “saving” the Vietnamese with our service, we will humbly work to eliminate the foreign perception of the “imperialistic American”. On a personal level, I see myself growing as an individual, as a Christian, and as a citizen of the world. I intend on this worldly maturity carrying over into my everyday life and mindset.

All contributions are sincerely appreciated and necessary to make this mission possible. Each person is asked to raise $3500 to cover the supplies needed to complete the various service projects as well as travel expenses. Every step towards social change helps make a difference! If you are interested in making a donation to this project, simply click on the \'DONATE\' button. It\'s the fastest and most efficient way to contribute and is 100% secure.

Thank you so much for visiting my fundraising page! Feel free to forward this page to anyone you know who might be interesting in helping my cause!

Best, Aline
