About
Global Dental Brigades UW Chapter empowers students and medical professionals by providing them with the opportunity to care for underserved populations. We are especially concerned with the effects of poverty and health inequity that impact individuals who are without access to basic dental care in developing countries. The aim of our efforts is to deliver sustainable, accessible, and comprehensive solutions for the purpose of improving oral health within rural, remote communities.
As a growing student-led organization, we hope that every medical outreach trip will teach us to be advocates of global health, which, in turn, transform us into proactive global citizens. This transformation of college students and doctors begins by learning to be culturally sensitive and medically competent as representatives of effective dentistry.
Since 2008, we have traveled to Honduras (three times) and Panama (Once). In these countries, our approach is to set-up mobile dental clinics that cater to the needs of impoverished communities who lack preventative and urgent dental care. GDB UW Chapter has successfully completed 4 brigades and will be traveling on their 5th trip this coming August 2012 to Panama with Global Medical Brigades UW Chapter.
