Business Brigades at The University of Texas at Austin

  • About
We improve lives in under-resourced communities in Ghana, Honduras, and Panama through week-long consulting initiatives. Our programs provide students with the opportunity to see the world and apply business principles to help communities in need, while also enhancing their résumés through real-world experiences. Together with Global Brigades’ eight other skill-based programs, we seek to resolve global health and economic disparities and inspire those involved to collaboratively work towards an equal world. Global Business Brigades (GBB) provides business consulting and strategic investment to support under resourced microenterprises in developing countries while respecting local culture and improving the environment. GBB focus is in remote and rural communities in Panama where we partner with other local development organizations to assess, implement and monitor sustainable development projects.

University of Texas Austin Business Brigade January 2017 Honduras

Volunteer Activity Description
Global Brigades offers 7-day Business Brigades throughout the year in Honduras and Panama. Business Brigades volunteers empowers rural communities in Panama without access to financial services and business guidance by providing micro-enterprise counseling, financial planning assistance and strategic investment. During the brigade, volunteers divide into small groups to conduct client visits in which they get to know the client and assess each client’s level of financial competency, entrepreneurial aspirations, and/or business knowledge. Volunteers then provide educational and capacity building assistance in the form of workshops. Topics range from personal finance to basic accounting and business planning.
